1. They tend to be one-time use. I don't care how much your bride says she is buying big(expensive) so her daughters can wear it to their weddings as a family tradition, it's a farce. If that was try, your bride to be would be using her mother's wedding dress, and you wouldn't have to buy one. Might as well be truthful, you don't want to start fibbing this early in the marriage. ;)
2. The quality of dress is almost unnoticeable. I've seen wedding dresses costing thousands of dollars looking nothing more than white evening dresses. While cheaper dresses hold the more noticeable wedding dress appearance.
3. Of the rack won't do. If you are going to buy a wedding dress, they you are going to buy the time to have it tailored. So no matter where you buy it, you will have that dress looked at, tweaked, and cleaned up. Some store wedding dresses have been sitting on the rack for a long time, and they do required washing. So keep this in mind when you see my sources for cheap wedding dresses.
4. Unless you want your dress tailored twice, you will not have it altered till you are close to your wedding date. Our bodies change with age(even just a month) and the season. What fits nice how could look awful in a month on you. So wait on having your wedding dress altered.
5. Wedding dresses typically are similar colors, so you don't need the dress before picking out the matching flowers and brides maids dresses. So you can wait on having your dress purchased. |
Have you ever heard of a cheap ivory wedding dress for sale $25 or less? Well I have at my #1 source for cheap wedding dresses.
#1 Salvation Army Thrift Stores - I have seen sequined and pearl(assuming fake pearls) decorated wedding dresses for really cheap prices, nice cheap wedding dresses. Being a person that realized early that my son (now 3) rents clothes instead of wears them out, since he keeps growing so fast; I've frequented our local Salvation Army Thrift Stores. You will be amazed at the number of very nice looking(I figured nice looking because you only really wear it once) wedding dresses. Now when I say cheap or affordable wedding dresses, I don't mean cheaply made so they are affordable, these affordable wedding dresses are very nice.
In my younger days, I've always thought of special items like a wedding dress being donated was the result of a broken and bad marriage. Being much older, I know from our numerous donations, people mostly donate items and clothing to the Salvation Army because they are good people and want help out those less fortunate. My saying, "Donate what you don't use, it helps those in need help, and then you can buy bigger to help the economy" Usually I'm talking about power tools and electronics, so I can buy bigger toys. ;) Don't fret a cheap wedding dress is a blessing.
Remember, you can get engaged and then spend a few months going from thrift store to thrift store looking for that affordable wedding dress. Since you can guess the color you want, and it doesn't have to be altered till close to the wedding you can take a chance in saving a lot of money.
My #2 Source for an Affordable Cheap Wedding Dress, can be fun.
#2 Garage Sales. Not everyone is getting married, but many of use have already been, so do the math. You can go garage sale shopping, and you should see more wedding dresses available for sale, than there are people to buy them. This creates a better selection, and a strong buyer's market. Wish you luck on the adventure, and bring someone with you(doesn't have to be the groom if you are superstitious), you can make a days adventure looking for that dress. Don't worry if you don't find one, because the hunt is part of the fun, and you might find other things for that wedding. Something blue, something old, something new, etc, etc.
